The Franklin County Office of Homeland Security & Justice Programs has implemented the Diversion Alternative–Project Opioid Program. The centerpiece of the program is a pilot drug court in Whitehall Mayor’s Court. The new court is used for post-plea cases at the misdemeanor level. The project also supports public education and harm-reduction activities, including the Community Paramedic Program that distributes naloxone and fentanyl test strips to individuals at risk of overdose and their families, as well as providing follow-up to persons who have experienced an overdose. In addition, Whitehall Fire will serve as a safe station where individuals in active addiction can walk in and receive referrals to recovery services after a brief medical screening.
