The Erie County Department of Health leads a multidisciplinary team to coordinate existing anti-opioid initiatives undertaken throughout western New York, integrate these services in the medical community, and more effectively address the opioid overdose public health problem. The county will use local law enforcement as well as consumer peer groups to increase engagement and referrals to medication-assisted treatment in the community. The Department of Health is working with the county’s Opioid Task Force on multiple projects related to raising community awareness of opioid abuse and increasing access to treatment. Researchers from the University of Buffalo serve as the research partner for the project.
